Era of Ruin, a new Horus Heresy anthology expands on the 40K spinoff

The Horus Heresy was once a vague part of Warhammer 40,000’s past, a civil war invented as an excuse to explain why players might pit their Space Marine armies against each other. Over the years, Games Workshop and the Black Library have explored this era in great detail, and its proven popular enough to justify its own spin-off wargame and a series of novels. There are now dozens of Horus Heresy books, Primarch novels, and other relics of this era. Fans thought that the story was done with The End and the Death, a three-part epic by Dan Abnett, but on Wednesday, Games Workshop announced a follow-up anthology.

The Siege of Terra: Era of Ruin is an anthology containing eight new stories from authors who contributed to the previous Siege of Terra books, a series that concludes the larger Horus Heresy narrative as a whole. There were plenty of plot threads left dangling at the end of The End and the Death, so we’ll presumably see some of these crop back up. Games Workshop shared the titles and authors of these stories, which may provide some clues for keen-eyed readers.

There is no exact release date for Era of Ruin, but Games Workshop say it’ll out before the end of the year. There will also be a special edition with a leather-like cover, metal insignia, and art of the cover and characters contained within.
